Kids at a Liverpool school are made to run one mile three times a week in a bid to cut childhood obesity rates.

All Saints Catholic Primary School in Anfield says pupils’ fitness, motivation and behaviour has improved since the regular running sessions were introduced.

Children are required to run laps of the playground, clocking up a mile at a time.

Headteacher Jeremy Barnes said: “Anfield had one of the highest levels of childhood obesity in the country and that was the motivation behind this.

“When we heard the statistics we were alarmed and felt we needed to do more.”
